Laminate flooring - wood looks and tough wear without the hardwood bill

Scratch-proof laminate that looks like real hardwood - kid-, pet-, and chair-roller proof, installed across Eagan, MN in a day.

A laminate worth a second look

A laminate worth a second look

If your picture of laminate is the hollow, shiny click-together floor from years ago, today's product will surprise you. Better printed layers, textured surfaces that follow the grain, and tighter beveled edges make a good laminate read as real wood from across the room. TPM Flooring brings laminate samples from trusted mills like Mohawk, Shaw, and Mannington right to your home in Eagan, MN, so you can judge color and texture in your own light.

Laminate shines where life is rough on floors: busy family rooms, hallways, kids' bedrooms, basement rec rooms, and rentals. If you love the warmth of wood but want something that costs less, compare it with engineered hardwood and luxury vinyl plank before you decide.

Wear ratings, explained simply

Laminate is graded by an AC (abrasion class) number that tells you how well the top layer resists scuffs. For Minnesota homes, where grit and salt get tracked in for half the year, we steer clear of the bottom of the scale.

  • AC3 - suited to bedrooms and light-use rooms only; we rarely suggest it
  • AC4 - our usual pick for busy homes, kitchens-adjacent spaces, and family rooms
  • AC5 - the choice for entries, long hallways, and rental units
  • Water-resistant cores - worth the upgrade near sinks, dishwashers, and back doors
  • Pad and moisture barrier matched to your subfloor, slab or wood

Installed flat, quiet, and built for Minnesota swings

Laminate floats over the subfloor, so the prep decides how it feels. We check the floor for flatness, deal with low spots, and lay the right underlayment for a slab or a wood subfloor. Planks are left to adjust to the room before we start, and we keep an expansion gap along the walls so the floor can handle our big seasonal humidity changes without lifting at the seams.

Every install finishes with staggered end joints, trim that matches, and clean transitions into the next room. Your work is covered by our 1-year installation warranty, and you can see what other neighbors say on our reviews page.

Laminate Flooring — your questions answered

Laminate has a fiberboard core under a printed wear layer, so it feels firm and wood-like but dislikes standing water. Vinyl plank is plastic through and through and shrugs off moisture. If water is a concern, look at our luxury vinyl plank options.

A water-resistant laminate holds up to everyday spills there. We would not use a standard laminate beside the sink or dishwasher, and we will tell you plainly if another product suits the space better.

With normal care it often serves a household for well over a decade, and heavier-rated planks last longer. Unlike hardwood it cannot be sanded, so when the surface wears out the planks are replaced. Sibling pages like laminate stairs show how the same product carries up a staircase.

Yes. Removal and disposal can be part of the quote, and we look at the subfloor during your free in-home estimate. Our demolition and prep service covers trickier tear-outs.
